Paradise Living
Our client’s brief was to create something special that oozes class; and for the kitchen to be a space that they didn’t want to leave.
About this project
This renovated kitchen defines the meaning of ‘packs a punch’. With its small footprint, every detail in design was carefully considered to create space, enhance functionality, and exude luxury.
Set in one of the most beautiful locations in North-East Victoria, the picturesque scenery surrounding the home inspired the style and theme for this kitchen. It needed to feel organic and inviting and by using natural materials, the kitchen sits beautifully within the landscape of this home.
In addition to the design, what really makes the kitchen stand out is the high level of craftsmanship and custom detail that makes you go WOW when you walk into the room. It’s hard to know where to look first!
Craftsmanship meets design
The detailed finishes and features are a visual stand out, they include:
- Natural marble benchtops and splashback
- Bi-Folding pocket doors finished in the custom Chevron pattern
- Custom timber framed beading to doors (meaning no nails!)
- Custom solid blackbutt timber drawer inserts
- LA Smith custom colour, Raven applied in two pack paint finish
The combination of using natural feature grade Blackbutt timber and custom colour palette from LA.Smith is just full of natural warmth and functions beautifully as a workspace.

Complete Package
With meticulous attention to detail, we embarked on a journey to preserve the heritage of this central Albury home while infusing it with new life and purpose.
About this project
The homeowner and his family were seeking a renovation that would honour their home’s history and make it functional and inviting for generations to come.
Working with interior designer Natalie Baker Collective, we ensured every detail was a celebration of the past and a nod to the future.
One of the most important elements of the project was for the joinery to create a consistent style throughout all the rooms of the home. And it needed to feel like it had always been there. The timeframe on the project was tight, and the owners were looking for a team they could trust to deliver on design and quality.
Historical charm meets modern functionality
The renovation’s show-stopping feature is a continuous expanse of joinery that graces the kitchen. Stretching an impressive seven metres, the design cleverly incorporates a bar. The hidden surprises don’t end there. Three bifold pocket doors open to reveal a fully functional laundry that effortlessly blends into the overall aesthetic.
Natural quartzite benchtops in Mont Blanc provide an organic feel whilst adding a sense of grandeur to the space.
We were thrilled when the owners chose to use LA Smith’s exclusive custom colours on every joinery element. The deep blue tones of Blue Mountain are beautifully balanced by the soft touch of Whitehaven.
This project beautifully embodies our commitment to artistry and functionality. Every detail has been carefully considered to create spaces that are both practical and visually stunning.
The home now boasts bright open spaces that welcome the family in, complemented by high-end joinery that reflects the character of the home.

How it Should Be
Custom curves and personalised touches added style and functionality to this kitchen renovation, while staying true to the home’s 1960s roots.
About this project
The previous kitchen renovation of this central Albury home didn’t pay tribute to the era of the home. The owner wanted a more functional kitchen with high quality finishes and plenty of style. Interior designer Natalie Baker Collective developed the design and the wow factor was left to us!
Curves and craftsmanship
The centrepiece of the space is undoubtedly the striking American Oak island. Its design pays homage to curved features throughout the home and adds depth and character to the space. The kitchen is now in sync with the aesthetic of the rest of the home.
This eye-catching feature piece is testament to the craftsmanship of our team. We love the intricacy and artistry of work like this. Each piece must be carefully joined to ensure the structural integrity of the piece. The curved dowel doors are where the craftsmanship really kicks in. It’s a time consuming process but the result is spectacular.
Porcelain benchtops provide a subtle, minimalistic look, with smooth curved edges adding the perfect finishing touch. LA Smith custom colours were chosen for the fridge and pantry cabinets. The overall effect is a space that’s one-of-a-kind, perfectly suited to the demands of modern living.
Throughout the project we ensured our client’s vision remained at the forefront. Their desire for a quality result was our driving force, and we kept them informed every step of the way. They say the end result hits the mark and has taken their home to a new level.

History in the Making
About the project
The owners of this historic Albury home love their kitchen so much it brings a smile to their face every time they walk into the room.
And it’s not just the homeowners who are in love with it. This multi award-winning kitchen was named 2021 HIA Victorian Kitchen of the Year, impressing the judges with its ‘showcase of elegance and craftsmanship’.
The home was originally built for Albury’s first mayor in the late 1800s and the owners wanted to honour the traditional style of the historic residence while adding a touch of class and sophistication. Our brief was to follow traditional English style whilst maintaining high level detail and quality finishes.
Every member of our team worked on this exciting project. It required us to utilise all the skills LA Smith is known for – traditional craftsmanship skills, cutting edge technology, and our ability to solve complex problems to ensure we can make the impossible possible.
One of the greatest challenges of this project was manufacturing formwork and templates to achieve the seamless curve on the stove mantle. Equally challenging was the curved glass door. Made from solid Victorian ash, it was shaped to form the radius, with moulded glass to suit. It required skilful manufacturing in-house at our studio to ensure the framework of the door would hold its curve. Lucky we thrive on a challenge!
Given it was such a complex, intricate project, our innovative 3D computer modelling program allowed our client to visualise the design in their home before we began, giving them full confidence in the outcome.
There is no doubt the quality materials and high-end craftsmanship elevated this project. Along with the curved mantle and glass door, other detailed finishes included:
- American oak lining boards inside the glass door cabinets
- Curved capping mould
- Custom made handles imported from England
- Handcrafted solid American Oak dovetail drawers
- Sub zero fridges
- Natural marble benchtops
- Handpainted cabinet finish for an organic feel
We were thrilled to deliver everything our clients had ever wanted in a kitchen. It is beautiful of course, but behind the stunning good looks is a meticulously considered design that functions perfectly.We think this outstanding project embodies LA Smith’s core belief that beautifully designed spaces have the power to improve wellbeing.
Our clients are exceptionally proud of their kitchen and the accolades it has received, But industry awards aside, this is very much the heart of a young family’s home – where everything they do in their lives is rolled into one, exceptional space.

Something Special
Architectural with a touch of Hamptons’ was the design brief for this kitchen renovation. It was the perfect opportunity for us to showcase the precision, creativity and handcrafted excellence we’re renowned for.
About this project
The owners of this home had a clear vision for their kitchen renovation: a high end look that didn’t compromise on functionality. Their existing redgum kitchen felt dark and uninviting. They wanted a lighter, brighter space with eye-catching details to invite you in.
Bespoke details for a one-of-a-kind space
This kitchen delivers ‘wow’ moments at every glance. Timber is the undeniable hero here. Every feature was custom-made, resulting in a truly unique kitchen that will impress for years to come.
Blackbutt lends its beauty to custom handles, trims and dovetail drawers. Look closer and you’ll notice the special details: the graceful curves of the rangehood and the custom moulds on the kickboard and posts. They speak to LA Smith’s quality craftsmanship and signature attention to detail.
The bespoke look continues with the perfect pairing of LA Smith custom colours Stormy Night and Whitehaven, with the honed Mont Blanc Quartzite benchtop and splashback providing a stunning contrast.
And oh, the light! It streams in through the addition of an exterior glass window and bi-fold doors and brings the kitchen alive.
The homeowners now look for any excuse to be in the kitchen so they can admire the stunning features of their new space. And who can blame them?

About this project
This is a home with hospitality at its heart.
The owners of this new build enjoy regular visits from family and friends outside the region, so they wanted a home where they could entertain with ease.
That sense of hospitality was an important consideration when we collaborated with the owner, and Shannon from Rees & Rees, on this project.
The brief was for stylish, contemporary-style joinery with the warmth of timber accents. The joinery throughout the home needed to feel connected room-to-room, which we achieved through the use of consistent materials and themes.
We love incorporating natural timbers into our designs because of the positive effect on wellbeing. We believe it can reduce blood pressure and heart rate, and foster a sense of comfort and connection to nature.
A place of celebration
With guests regularly welcomed into this home, the kitchen needed to be a hub for entertaining and celebration. It was essential that whoever was doing the meal preparation and cooking could be busy in the kitchen without feeling disconnected from guests.
The ample, open plan breakfast bar was the perfect solution.
Stunning porcelain benchtops contrast with Mismatch Spotted Gum to achieve a timeless and sophisticated aesthetic. Shadow rails for handles add an elegant touch.

No matter where life takes you or how busy you are, there’s nothing like coming home to a space you love. Our joinery’s sleek design and warm timber tones have created an inviting home perfect for celebrating life’s special moments. The owners tell us it brings them, and their many visitors, endless joy.

On-trend Masterpiece
About the project
The design brief for this young family’s renovation demanded creativity and craftsmanship, so LA Smith was the natural choice when O’Halloran Building Group sought a partner for this project.
The homeowners wanted a kitchen that brought them together. A space where they could entertain with ease, or just enjoy quality time together. From a design perspective, their vision was for curvaceous joinery that flowed through the main living areas without impeding the home’s fantastic views.
We delivered a high-end joinery package to create spaces in the home that every family member could enjoy.
Look at those curves
Without a doubt, the curved joinery sets this stunning kitchen apart. Bending V-groove panelling in this way requires a high level of craftsmanship and extensive trade experience, both of which are hallmarks of LA Smith studio. We absolutely love applying our skill in this way to deliver such a sensational impact.
The choice of specialised materials also levate the space, including the premium grain print board used on doors and panels. The striking terrazzo island bench is a standout feature.
Now this young family has a home that perfectly suits their lifestyle, where family interaction is at its best.
In the words of the owners “it keeps us close as a family”. And who could ask for more than that?

A Perfect Match
About this Project
This nature-loving family wanted a seamless connection between their forever home and its picturesque rural setting on acreage in Leneva. Also on the list of must-haves was a high quality finish with plenty of wow factor – a challenge we were thrilled to take on!
Bringing the outdoors in
To create a flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces we selected raw natural materials including spotted gum to echo the home’s exterior. The warmth of this timber joinery created a calm space where the family felt truly connected to their natural surroundings. The result was organic, high end and fully customised.
While the beautiful spotted gum timber brought the wow factor to this project, it can be challenging to work with. Being a natural, unstable timber it’s vulnerable to moisture and movement, so you must have a full understanding of timber species to achieve the desired results. Our expert knowledge came to the fore, and in our skilled hands this stunning timber is the hero – treated and manufactured to ensure it will perform for years to come.
We loved working so closely with the homeowners to design and realise this project, and we can’t wait to see their active young family grow in an environment that captures everything they love about their rural lifestyle.
