In collaboration with Techne Architecture and Scott James Builder, we were presented with a rare opportunity to create something truly remarkable. Set within a stunning rural landscape, this kitchen and butler’s pantry—masterfully designed by Techne Architecture—was envisioned to reflect grandeur, elegance, and uncompromising quality. From the outset, the design promised to exceed expectations, both in presence and performance.
Blending Architectural Detail with Modern Functionality
To fulfil the brief, we carefully crafted a kitchen and pantry that honored every architectural detail while integrating high-performance appliances and refined finishes. Positioned to capture expansive rural views, the kitchen acts as the central artery of the home—flowing effortlessly between living zones and inviting movement and connection throughout. The inclusion of a fully equipped butler’s pantry adds a layer of luxury and practicality, elevating the overall experience.
An Artistic Composition of Stone Meetal and Timber
This kitchen is rich in standout features that reflect both innovation and artistry. Striking Zalvano marble is used extensively, making a powerful visual statement with its natural veining and texture. The aged brass, metal-clad rangehood—at 2.4 meters wide and extending to the ceiling—is both monumental and elegant. Layered into the design are warm American oak elements and neutral-toned two-pack cabinetry, creating a balanced and inviting palette that speaks to timeless sophistication.

At LA Smith Studio, this project exemplifies our diversity to deliver a handcrafted Kitchen that has met our clients brief, and all just from a photo! This was truly something special; Unique to Australian design but still required extraordinary craftmanship; this kitchen exudes the our capability and experience to be able to deliver.
About this project
This project began with a simple yet ambitious brief: replicate a kitchen the client loved from a reference image. What followed was the meticulous recreation of an authentic American-style kitchen, delivered with precision and craftmanship.
Mastering the Art of American Character
The design was inspired by a traditionally American Home, with several materials sourced directly from the United States to ensure authenticity and attention to detail. The cabinetry feature a considered combination of solid American Oak and Vic Ash timber, carefully selected and custom-stained to match original protype.
One of the key challenges was achieving the precise light green finish. This was accomplished through application of a solid colour, followed by a tinted brown hand-brushed topcoat finish. The process required a single artisan to complete the application to maintain colour consistency and achieve the desired natural, time-worn appearance.
Signature elements such as the natural quartzite benchtops, custom-made capping moulds, and hand-turned timber legs reinforce the classic American aesthetic and craftmanship synonymous with this style of kitchen.

Starting from a single image, we delivered a fully bespoke kitchen that not only met the client’s brief but exceeded expectations-combining unique Australian design sensibilities with exceptional craftsmanship and international influence.

The natural beauty and warmth of Walnut timber take centre stage in this kitchen, elevated by breathtaking curves and seamlessly integrated custom solid timber handles. This is craftsmanship at its finest—a true “next level” statement.
Just when you think you’ve absorbed all the stunning details, your eyes are drawn to the rangehood canopy, its subtle curves blending effortlessly into the gabled ceiling, creating a design feature that feels both bold and understated.

A Perfect Match
About this Project
This nature-loving family wanted a seamless connection between their forever home and its picturesque rural setting on acreage in Leneva. Also on the list of must-haves was a high quality finish with plenty of wow factor – a challenge we were thrilled to take on!
Bringing the outdoors in
To create a flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces we selected raw natural materials including spotted gum to echo the home’s exterior. The warmth of this timber joinery created a calm space where the family felt truly connected to their natural surroundings. The result was organic, high end and fully customised.
While the beautiful spotted gum timber brought the wow factor to this project, it can be challenging to work with. Being a natural, unstable timber it’s vulnerable to moisture and movement, so you must have a full understanding of timber species to achieve the desired results. Our expert knowledge came to the fore, and in our skilled hands this stunning timber is the hero – treated and manufactured to ensure it will perform for years to come.
We loved working so closely with the homeowners to design and realise this project, and we can’t wait to see their active young family grow in an environment that captures everything they love about their rural lifestyle.
